Prayer & Collective Worship
Assemblies
As a Catholic school, all our assemblies and collective worship are based around the Gospel and Gospel values. On Mondays, assembly is based on the Gospel of the previous Sunday. Both staff and children lead this collective worship over the course of the year. On Fridays, we have a “Celebration Assembly” of praise and thanksgiving at which certificates are given for being “Star of the Week”, “Independent Learner” and “Star Reader” and house points prizes, good behaviour and punctuality and attendance awards are issued.
Prayer and Liturgy
Children say prayers at the beginning and end of the morning and afternoon sessions. These are suited to the growing spirituality of the children and by the time children leave school, they have experienced a richness of prayer, both traditional and non-traditional. As well as whole school assemblies and prayer and liturgy, we have prayer and liturgy together each day in class to pray , reflect and focus on feast days. Every class has a class saint and in September 2023, Father John blessed every classroom to mark the amalgamation of our new school.
Sacramental Preparation
Each year we prepare our Catholic children in Year 3 for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. We also prepare our Year 6 children for the Sacrament of Confirmation. The children learn about the importance of the Sacraments through writing, reading, discussion and singing. The children are very well supported in their preparation and celebration of the sacraments by prayer partners, the school, parents and the parish.
Preparation lessons take place at the Junior site at Dudley Road once a month, after Sunday Youth Mass, from September through to June.
Parents of children who are making their First Holy Communion, Reconciliation or Confirmation will be expected to attend meetings, Youth Mass and preparation classes to help support their children in preparing to receive these sacraments.
